Is Niagara Falls Open in The Winter?

Posted in Uncategorized by Jim Sunday February 8, 2009

Yes, it may sound silly but there are many people asking the question if NIagara Falls is open in the Winter.  Believe it or not, there are still some Niagara Falls attractions that are open during the winter. Journey Behind the Falls and the New Niagara’s Fury attraction are open. Also many of the fun houses and theme park style rides on Clifton Hill remain open in the winter.

On the U.S. side, most of the Niagara Falls State Park attractions are closed. Cave of the Winds and Terrapin point are both closed. Viewing is limited on Goat Island due to the ice accumulation during the winter.

Likewise, the Maid of the Mist Boat Ride is closed on both sides of the border. The Maid of the Mist should open around April of 2009 depending on ice conditions.

What Does the Word Niagara Mean, Anyways?

Posted in Tidbits by Jim Sunday February 1, 2009

So how did Niagara Falls get to be Niagara Falls, as in the name? Despite what many believe, Niagara Falls does not mean “Thundering Waters”. Many local Native Americans believe the river was called “the neck”; while even other say it was called “split in the flatland”. Interesting, huh?

From the Buffalo Airport - Is there a Shuttle or Limo?

Posted in Get To Niagara by Jim Tuesday January 20, 2009

We receive a lot of inquiries to our website about how to get from the Buffalo Airport to Niagara Falls. One of the best ways to get there seems to be taking a private car or limo service. The trip takes about 45 minutes to get to the border and could take another hour to get across into Canada depending on traffic and time of the year.

The Buffalo Airport Limo Service  is one of the most reliable companies that we have dealth with in the past to take you to your Niagara Falls Hotel in New York or Niagara Falls Canada. Their price is around $80 each way if you book them round trip. They provide tourist packets, cold water and a friendly chauffeur to get you to your hotel.  They also offer one hour sightseeing tours of NIagara Falls State Park. This can be an enjoyable stop. All chauffeurs are native english speakers and wear professional attire.

Contact Buffalo Airport Limo Service at (716) 284-7040 or you can call them toll free at 1-800-689-8189.

How Much Water Goes Over Niagara Falls?

Posted in Tidbits by Jim Monday January 19, 2009

On average, the flow over the American and Bridal Veil Falls varies from 8-10,000 cubic feet per second or about 75,000 gallons per second. This amount can vary depending on how much water is diverted for hydroelectricity.

The flow of the Horshoe falls varies to about 675,000 gallons per second!

Amazing!

Thunder Falls Buffet

Posted in Dining - USA by Jim Monday August 25, 2008

What: Thunder Falls Buffet
Where: Seneca Niagara Casino
How Much: Around $20 per person

Thunder Falls Buffet, located in the Seneca Niagara Casino out the front area near the Bus Lobby is a treat for the entire family. Fast lines and good food, although can be rather pricey, even with a players card. Great selection including asian, italian and southern. Great pizza, great salad and desert bar. If you have youngsters, you can eat at the buffet because it is located outside of the casino (you don’t have to walk through the casino to get to it).

One thing we don’t like is the reservation process. If you go on a busy Saturday evening, you have to get a reservation ticket which tells you when to come back and stand in line. If you are going to be standing in line anyways, what is the difference when you stand there?
