When planning a trip to Niagara Falls figure in a little leisure time to visit and explore the Dufferin Island Nature Area. It offers something for just about anyone to do. The island is a beautiful wonder that can cause you to lose your sense of time. So make sure you allow time to just enjoy what you do or see. It’s also a great spot for a picnic in Niagara Falls and has grills available for use (just bring the charcoal!).

It was the result of glacier cutting through the area 50,000 years ago. It consists of 10 acres of beautiful natural habitat that offers a wide variety of activities to all who visit. It also gives access to 4 separate islands that are connected by nature paths and bridges. Not only is it used for hiking, bird watching (you’ll find many ducks and Canadian geese here), catch and release fishing, But it can also be a beautiful spot to hold a amazing, unforgettable, and once a lifetime wedding. To spend time on the island just go approximately a ½ mile up the river from Horseshoe Falls. There is free admission to all, But they do accept donations. The donations are used to maintain the habitat and those received during the Winter Festival of Lights are used to maintain and purchase light displays.
