Seneca Niagara Casino Demolition Moving Fast

Posted in Niagara Falls Tourism News, Tidbits by Jim Tuesday April 1, 2008

As I rode past the casino today on my way to work, I could not help but notice the big blank space along John B. Daly Blvd where the old Niagara Splash Park once was. The Pizza Hut on the corner has also disappeared. Meanwhile, on the other side of the hotel the old Holiday Inn is just about all down. One thing I have to admit about the Seneca Nation is they don’t mess around when it comes to development. It leaves one to wonder what is going to come up in it’s place. It is rumored to be a state of the art entertainment complex with more gaming space and more hotels on the land.

Further out, construction is also moving forward on the Buffalo Creek Casino in nearby Buffalo.

I will post further construction updates as they happen.

The Journey Behind the Falls is open all year long excluding Christmas Day. During spring and summer the fees are: $12 per adult,$7.20 per child. Winter rates are lower as the lower observation deck is unaccessible due to ice. The fees are: $9 per Adult, $7.20. An adults is anyone 13 years and up. The fee for children 5 and under is FREE. If you are going to Niagara Falls and your kids are tagging along then you may want to take a little detour 4.5 miles downstream from the Falls to a place called Niagara Power Project; also know as the Power Vista. If you don’t have kids, this is still a great place to visit and is also a free attraction. The Power Vista is entertaining and educational for people of all ages. It offers hands on approaches to learning with over 50 different interactive displays that teach people things like the historic role hydroelectricity played in the Niagara frontier.

Another experience the power project offers is learning about how water is diverted from the Niagara River and used to produce electricity. You can take a break on the Observation Deck to get a look for yourself after viewing the demonstration terrain map.

The Power Vista offers group presentations for grades Pre-K – 12TH. They offer information on geology, history, electricity, and technology. There are specific grade level presentations also available.

At the end of all programs you are “shocked” by taking part in a demonstration using the Van De Graaf generator making your hair stand straight up!

Many people like to view the newly restored 7ft high mural of a scene from the 17th century of the Priest known as Father Lois Hennepin viewing the Niagara Falls with a group of Native Americans.

So stop by to be electrified and enjoy the Power Vista - the power project is open daily year round 9am to 5pm during Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
